Just a comment. I ghost stitched two baby birth announcements for a woman in Illinois. There were so many sectional color changes that drove me crazy - until I decided to outline first, and then stitch. If I needed to, I then re- stitched the outline. It did make the stitching much easier. I guess we all find out what works for us.

Teri, thanks for sending the pictures, but I don't think I can help at this time. The first one is crewel which I don't do. The second one looks like it needs to have the flowery border finished but the outlining is done. Really the cross stitching should be done first and then the outlining, so in order to do it right I'd have to take out the entire border, and I just don't think I have time right now to do that. I'm sorry for getting your hopes up, but I don't want to disappoint you by not being able to do a good job. Hopefully you'll find someone who can do it.

Hello, I have two unfinished mini cross stitch projects that I really need completed and mailed back to me at least two weeks before Christmas. I am disabled now and can not see to finish them. These are treasured gifts for my two sisters! I have tried to finish them for ten years and I just can't see well enough to complete them. Please, I hope there is some kind individual who will help me. I have to mail one of them to CO, so with Christmas Mailing times, it makes it very hard. Please reply!! Thank you!! All I need is the stitching part completed. I can have them blocked and I can frame them, before I mail them to my sisters. Thank you.

I just bought a stamped cross-stitch tablecloth at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. I believe the fabric is linen. It's years since I worked a stamped cross-stitch and I only ever washed items after stitching. Will the stamped pattern survive if I launder this tablecloth before I work it?

Oh Pat, I'm so sorry both for you and the young lady. And being me, I'd phone that old bat and confront her with her big lie. I don't use the word "confront" easily but in this case, that's what I'd do. You're probably more controlled than I am, but I am angry for you and the young girl. What a cruel old bag.
USA - Wednesday, August 08, 2018 at 09:37:09 (MST)

PAT: I am so sorry to hear that but thanks for the update. Sadly, there's no reasoning with psychopaths like that. You were friends with her deceased husband and his first wife so she had to know her lie was easily verifiable so why not just tell the truth instead? If that were me, I'd hate to hear "I gave it away", "I threw it away", or "I sold it in my yard sale for a nickle" but better than being bold-face lied to. She is, indeed, a very cruel person and my heart hurts for that poor little girl. I sure hope you come across that same pattern again someday so that you can restitch it for her in her parents' memory. I only wish I could have done more to help you in your quest to find it. :-(
USA - Tuesday, August 07, 2018 at 20:17:42 (MST)

Cathy, Connie, Betsy and others who have been looking, here's the update, and I hope it doesn't make your blood boil as it has mine. I sent a letter to the step-mother explaining that I had made the cross stitch and now that both parents are deceased, I wonder if I could have it back in memory of the parents. Believe it or not she called late last night and said she would be glad to give it back if she had it, but she doesn't have it. When I asked her where it was she said (and this is a bold faced lie) that the young girl had it. She said she gave it to her. When I called the grandma this morning she was shocked, and said, "No, she never got it." How can people be so cruel. I just wanted her to have it in memory of her mother.

USA - Saturday, August 04, 2018 at 14:06:20 (MST)

Good idea, Pat! Hopefully she still has it and will return it to you so that you can then pass it on to your friend's granddaughter -- something that selfish step-mother should have done in the first place if only she had a heart. I think about that young lady often and hope she's doing okay. If you could please let us know how it goes, we'd really appreciate it. Thanks and I hope you're having a great weekend so far! :-)
USA - Saturday, August 04, 2018 at 13:33:55 (MST)

Cathy, thanks for looking, but that isn't the one. Out of desperation I sent a letter to the stepmother who was the last one who had the cross stitch. I said that I made it for the couple's wedding and now that they are both deceased I wondered if I could have it back in their memory. I didn't mention that I would give it to the daughter. I tried to make it sound like it would be for me. I just sent the letter a couple days ago, so I haven't heard yet. My only hope is that she didn't sell it in a garage sale, and that she still has access to it.

PAT: Again, so sorry to hear that the stepmother is being so vindictive towards that poor little girl. She's having a tough enough time as it is being orphaned at such a young age without having to deal with that kind of nastiness too. So sad. Even though I know the one that hung in her parents' kitchen is the only one she wants and nothing else will do, I found one more thing to show you anyhow. It's a round strawberry box instead of a square one but it's otherwise similar-looking to what you described earlier regarding it laying on its side with the strawberries falling out of it. Sorry I haven't been able to be of more help otherwise. Good luck! https://www.etsystudio.com/listing/473844868/cross-stitch-kit-strawberry-basket

Connie and June and others who are looking for the strawberry basket pattern. I talked to my friend, the girl's grandma, who has custody of her, and she and I agreed on a couple things. 1. making a similar pattern just wouldn't do it. 2. the basket is the square berry kind and it's laying on its side with berries sort of falling out. 3. there's no way in the world the step-mother would be co-operative and try to get the picture back so the girl could have it in memory of her mother. She is bitter because the judge wouldn't give her custody. Thanks everyone for looking for this pattern. I haven't given up!

Connie and June, I'm beginning to wonder if I am correctly remembering exactly what the strawberry basket looked like. I went through every pattern I had and didn't find it. Then today I looked at the possibilities you suggested, but they don't look familiar either. I'll suggest to the girl's grandma that she might be able to get it back if she asks the stepmother, although I don't think that lady would be cooperative. I might ask her if she thinks her granddaughter would like a replacement even if it's different. I really appreciate your help. THANK YOU! Connie, the pattern of horse and foal has 9 full sheets of symbols. I'm done with about 1 1/2 of them. It's very detailed! Thanks for asking.

Godfrey, IL USA - Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11:31:41 (MST)

Pat: I don't think this is what you are looking for but it looks like what you described. Another thought, did the teenager ask what happened to the cross stitch. The step mom may have given it away to someone who would likely return it if they knew how important it was to the youngster. Meanwhile you could do a pattern that comes very close to the other one. The girl could make it her own. Here is a link to the pattern I found most likely no where near the same. https://www.maryjanes.com/detail.cfm?ID=65510
NH USA - Friday, June 22, 2018 at 06:02:10 (MST)

PAT: Awwwww ..... that poor little dear. I can't imagine being a young teenage girl and have both my mom an dad gone like that. So sad. What a shame her step-mother was such a spiteful person to have gotten rid of that cross stitch you did for her parents all those years ago. Did you also think to check any cross stitch books and magazines you have that the strawberry pattern might possibly have been in rather than a kit or leaflet? I never get rid of my patterns either, so I'm just trying to help you think of someplace it could be "hiding" that you might have forgotten about. Good luck and don't give up! (P.S.: How's the mother and baby horse x-stitch for your granddaughter coming along?)

The grandparents now have legal custody and things are working out well, but grandma told me the granddaughter always loved that cross stitch and that's why I would love to make it for her. I actually did go through all my patterns and couldn't find it. I wonder if my memory of it has faded. I did look at the sources you sent but none of them looked familiar. About 20 years ago I made a cross stitch for a wedding gift. It hung on their kitchen for many years. The wife died and the husband remarried. When the stepmother moved in, the cross stitch disappeared. The husband is now deceased also. Their daughter loved that cross stitch, but of course it is nowhere around. I would love to make her another just like it. It was a small basket with strawberries in it and around it. I thought it was a Jeremiah Junction but I can't find it. I never throw out patterns but just can't find it. I'm hoping this sounds familiar and I could borrow it.

I found a mother and colt on MaryJanescrossnstitch.com but it is just a head shot of the mare and foal. It is called a Mother's Love by Kustom Krafts. However the chart is expensive $15.00. Here is the link that I copied: https://www.maryjanes.com/detail.cfm?ID=45602 Hope this helps, but you probably wanted the whole animals.

I'm looking for a counted cross stitch pattern of a horse with her foal. I would like it to be at least 8 x 10 or bigger and would like just the pattern, but if it is a kit I would consider that. The only ones I've seen on-line are on e-bay from out of the country and I'm not sure I want to get involved with that.

Mary, don't give up hope. You may find it at a reasonable price, but right now it is on eBay for $95. It has been out of print for quite a while.

Ellen, I have had success by using Oxiclean powder. I make a paste, put it on the spot and leave overnight, then rinse or wash it out. If your threads are colorfast, it should not effect them. It has even gotten out yellow nicotine stains for me.

Hi. I have a small water stain on my aida fabric, not near the stitching but within the area that will get framed. Any suggestions as to how to get it out? It looks like a small circle, about an inch in diameter, that is very slightly off white (the fabric is white). Thanks for any advice you can give!

Amy, 123Stitch.com offers 18 count Aida. You will probably have to request and order a whole bolt. They only advertise cuts, but they are cutting it from a bolt, so they should be able to get what you want. They will probably need you to pay first and I am guessing it would be pretty pricey, as that quantity of any fabric would be.

Does anyone out there know where I could find an entire bolt of 18 count white Aida? I go through a lot of 18 count (in odd and strange cut sizes), and thought a bolt would be easier, but all I can find is 14 count. Thanks!

Mary Ann, I was looking at a variety of samplers and it seems they space the widest part of each letter one or two spaces apart from the widest part of the next letter, but if you are using cursive, they could actually touch. I think I would put four or five spaces between words.

Hi, I want to create a phrase using a cursive alphabet pattern. I don't know how to space the letters - distance apart. There's a cross stitch writing tool online, but you have to use one of the available alphabet styles. Do I need to figure this out myself, or is there information out there about how to do this?

I'm trying to find out the month/year or volume/issue of the magazine containing this pattern. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Thank you thank you for the chart by color family. I have an extensive collection of embroidery floss and very seldom use stitching charts with numbers of the floss and if I do I change the colors frequently. So now I can arrange the floss by color rather than number and find what I am looking for!! Creativity has been let loose!!! Thank you thank you LK

I am searching for a Christmas stocking cross stitch pattern for a stocking called Deck the Stalls. It shows horses in a stall and dogs in front of the stall. I am about to become a grandmother and my daughter in law is a horsewoman. I would like to do this stocking for my grandchild. It is a discontinued pattern from JCA Needleworks - a company that is not longer in business. It was cross stitch kit with the stock number of #02951. I only need the pattern, not the kit. I am willing to purchase a used pattern. Can anyone help me? Please include the word cross stitch or Deck the Stalls in the subject part of the email as I don't open emails I don't recognize. Thanks for any help!!
