Namali: Here are a few websites and you can check for a chart you like: www.123stitch.com (great prices), www.stitchesnthings.com and one of my favorites, www.shakespearespeddler.com. All 3 are good and can pretty much get you anything you see on Hoffman's website if it isn't out of print. Best of luck! And they all ship overseas.

Carole: Thanks for trying! The free pattern at Victoria Sampler is only the Heart Band part of the larger Crimson Fire Sampler, the whole sampler is no longer available at that site, free or otherwise :) I appreciat your time though!

To dj: I looked on yarndex and it will tell you if the yarn ever exhisted but there are no stores that sell it. Someone told me to try spinrite the distributor but again no luck. My best bet is a nice storeowner who has some and would reply or a person who has some sitting around their personal stash. I have other colors in the yarn but no Roxy Rose left. DENISE: I'm so glad to hear you finally found the cross stitch you've been looking for! I can't imagine WHY that store would have just canceled your order without telling you!!! That's extremely rude & it's not very good customer service. Word of mouth is what businesses depend on most of the time to survive so I can't imagine what they were thinking by treating a customer that way. I've never done business with these people & it's doubtful I ever will now because of this (& I'm sure I'm not the only one here who feels that way either). I'd rather pay a little more for something I need from someone I trust than to pay less if I have to deal with a rude, unresponsive, aggravating seller like this!

I am an American living abroad and am looking for two patterns approximately 2 years old. They are of Krakow, Poland landmarks, Wawel Castle/Cathedral and St Mary's Basilica. They appeared in a British (I think) magazine sold over here possibly called Cross Stitch or Magic World of Cross Stitch. Might have been a US magazin, I just remember some of the cover was in English. They were mostly backstitch and looked like pen and ink drawings on aida cloth. Any ida of what the "official" names of these patterns are, or in which magazine they appeard?

CONNIE & MALLORY: I finally received an email from the Stitchery Shop, after 3 weeks of trying to get an answer by phone or email. I was told that since the chart was no longer available they had cancelled my order (only they didn't tell me!). The chart is now OOP, I think, 'A Savior is Born' by 4 My Boys. I originally tried my LNS and she tried her best to find it but did not have it. That's when I began looking online. I have now located it on Ebay from a very nice lady so I can put this behind me! RE: 2-1/2" GOLD ORNAMENT FRAMES: For anyone interested --- someone on eBay is currently selling 2-1/2" gold ornament frames (3 in a lot, 3 lots available). I really need these ornament frames myself but they're a little on the steep side: B-I-N for $8.49/lot (+ $3.79 shipping) . . . which makes the ornaments $6.14 each. Ouch!!!!! Just a little bit more than I'm willing to pay, I'm afraid. The item # is 110487939701. I've never bought anything from this seller so I can't personally vouch for them but their feedback is excellent so I'd say they'd probably be okay to deal with. CONNIE: I did receive a copy of my order plus an order number immediately after I placed the order. That is the only communication I have had whatsoever. This has been such a headache over a cross stitch chart! However, I would advise everyone to think long and hard before ordering from the Stitcher Shop in Livonia, MI. DENISE: Sorry for the mix-up! I don't understand that store's non-communication with you but if you haven't rec'd your item & there hasn't been a charge on your c.c. for it then maybe they either a.) didn't receive your order for some reason or b.) the item proved to be too hard to find (maybe it became out-of-stock where they were getting it & they didn't know where else to find it?) so they just quit on you. Either way, I'm glad they didn't charge you for something you never got! But if you order your item from a 2nd store & the 1st store ends up sending it to you after all, then I'd return the item to store #2 for a refund (because you might have just as hard a time getting a refund as you did the item!!!).

TO CONNIE & MALLORY: Thanks for taking such an interest! The one I am talking about is www.stitcheryshop in Livonia, MI. I did contact my credit card company and they have had no transaction as yet from them and cannot block a 'future transaction'. So, I feel stuck. I have found another place to order this hard to find chart. However, I know as soon as I do, they might finally send it and charge me for it. I just cannot understand why there is no communication. DENISE: (Sorry! Just one more thing!) I live in the Louisville, KY area and we have someone at our local newspaper that writes a column called "Lemme Do It". They receive all kinds of complaints from people like you who have tried to resolve problems with a place of business only to sometimes get the runaround to the point where they're just about ready to give up. They write to "Lemme" for help & from some of the letters published in the paper, they seem to have quite a bit of success resolving the issues (although not always in the writer's favor). Do you have something like this where you live??? If so, maybe they can help you. Good luck!

DENISE: Regarding canceling your order --- since you haven't gotten any kind of a response from the seller, have you tried contacting your credit card company & (belatedly) filing a dispute with them because you haven't received your merchandise? I don't know how long it's been since you paid for your undelivered item(s) & I don't know whether you'd be able to do anything about it now or not but it's certainly worth a try. If your credit card company goes along with it & seeks seeks to get your money back from this business, that might be enough to get their attention so that they'll contact you & try to work things out. DENISE: When you say the "Stitchery Shop", are you referring to The Stitchery (@ thestitchery.com)??? Because I've ordered hundreds (& I mean HUNDREDS!!!) of $$$ worth of cross stitch items from them over the 22 years I've been stitching & I've NEVER had a problem receiving anything from them, nor have I ever failed to call them & someone didn't answer the phone & help me with anything I needed. Are you SURE you're calling the right number & e-mailing the right address? Because if this is the same place I'm thinking of, this behavior is just totally uncharacteristic of them.

For folks looking for knitting/crochet yarn, you may want to go to www.ravelry.com and join (just takes a minute). The site is devoted totally to knitting/crochet. There are forums there where people can post for discontinued yarn/htf yarn. You may have a better chance of finding your needed yarn there.

I am looking for 2 sampler patterns by Sister. They were from 2001 and had 4 separate leaflets for each of the 4 seasons. I have the Spring & Summer and need the Fall and Winter samplers. The Spring has a large rabbit with a carrot and the Summer has a crow - both of these above the alphabet with checkers separating them. Sorry, but I have no idea what is on the Fall and Winter patterns. Any help would be appreciated.

THELMA: If you can't find the help you need regarding DMC numbers and need to purchase the "Our Little Girl" kit again, there are (2) currently available on eBay. One is from Caryn and Richard's Cross Stitch (item #370322806061). I've dealt with them before and they are very reliable. It's $6.99 (+ $2.90 shipping) with 3 days to go on the auction (or you can Buy It Now for $7.95). The other one (item #150398428382) is with someone I've never bought from before so I can't personally vouch for them but their feedback is excellent so I'm pretty sure they'd very be trustworthy to deal with. I am looking for a send-away chart for a cross stitch Christmas tree incorporating the twelve days of Christmas. It was in one of the Christmas issues of McCalls magazine printed sometime in the 1980's. It is quite intricate. I saved it for when I had time to work on it. In the meantime, my husband went through the drawer in the file cabinet where I was saving it and threw everything away. Connie,I went on e-bay and Candamar.com. I only seen the Stairway to Paradise and not the other kits. Thank you for taking the time to look and respond back to me. I noticed the kits are very expensive,but now I am looking for the chart booklet on Thomas Kinkade. I have plenty of embrodiery threads. Christine, I have seen round ones at Stitchers Stash in Fairfax(a bit pricey though). They reminded me that I had two square tins with clear covers that were wedding handouts. Sometimes there are two symbols that use the same color because one of then is actually supposed to be a half stitch. The effect is kind of shading. Could this be on your design? Do you have a picture of the finished stitching that came with the kit?

KATIE: I'm sorry. In re-reading your post, I see now where you wrote that there were 2 separate SYMBOLS (instead of the same symbol) using the same color of thread. It's possible that whoever printed the chart should have listed a different color than the one that they did. I'd still recommend you try and contact the company that put out the chart, tell them what the problem is, and see if they can tell you what that other color of thread should be. This has happened to me before and I was able to get the correct info I needed from that company in order to finish the project that I was working on at the time. Sorry, again for the mis-reading. KATIE: Is it an all b/w chart or a color one? If it's an all b/w chart, it's possible that whoever printed it made an error & meant to use a different symbol, & therefore, a different color of thread would be used (that's been known to happen). If it's a color chart, you could be the one confused. Yes, it's the same symbol, but by the chart being in 2 different colors (say red & blue), you could be focusing only on the symbol itself & seeing just the (1) color of thread (DMC 930) instead of seeing the other color of thread you should be using instead. If the chart is b/w & a mistake by THEM has been made, maybe you can contact the co. & find out what the correct symbol should be instead. Hope I was of some help to you. Good Luck!

I have done most of my light fixtures with counted cross stitch, and love them all. Fond Memories has in their Book 3, several switchplate covers which I have done. Also, "Stitches and Switches", a potpourri by Fond Memories. Also, TGIF, Jeanette Crews Designs, Inc "Let There Be Light". A new parrot for a light switch is one that I adore, and I'm doing that one. But, I have several switches in the kitchen and living room; plug switches; double switches (one over the other). I don't care for light houses or children's. Any other patterns that you know of? Well said, Gwen! It would be nice if designers could put a little illustration on the pattern to show how to do this. There are a lot of people that have never stitched on linen or other evenweaves and it can be confusing. In my shop I give lessons to anyone that wants to learn how to stitch "over two". It is easier when you can see it done. Crossstitch.about.com has a great section on stitching over two, plus any other questions on technique. Happy stitching!

Robin said "When you stitch "over two" it means over two THREADS", which is the same thing I said, but obviously, I wasn't very clear. Sorry to have confused you. I will still hold that the number before the word OVER means how many strands of floss you use. The number that follows the word OVER means the number of threads in the fabric. To stitch "2 over 2" means to stitch 2 strands of floss and cross over 2 threads of fabric. "1 over 2" means 1 strand of floss over 2 threads of fabric, etc. On Aida, from one hole to the next hole (a block or square)is equal to stitching over two threads of fabric on linen or evenweave. I was pretty sure that's what "2 over 1" meant (even though I said "spaces" instead of "threads") but an earlier poster regarding this question said that "2 over 1" meant to use two strands of floss and stitch over one square on the fabric and that's where my confusion came from. Now I know for sure that if I should ever come across those particular instructions in a future project, I'll know exactly what it means. Thanks again!

Hi Connie, When you stitch "over two" it means over two THREADS on an evenweave fabric such as linen, lugana, jobelan etc. When you stitch on aida, the stitch is over one BLOCK which makes a difference. There are some really good instructional sites on the Internet that teach you how, or ask your local stitching shop for some instruction. Good luck!

I could be wrong but I always thought "2 over 1" meant to count over 2 spaces on your fabric then up 1 for each cross stitch??? Or is this all dependent upon the different designers and how they word their instructions? I've been stitching off and on for 20 years now but surprisingly, I haven't come across any patterns/kits with those exact words before. Almost 100% of the projects I do are on 14-count Aida (I've yet to try linen, even after all this time!), using 2 strands of floss, and going over 1 space then up 1 space for my completed cross stitch. Can someone set me straight on this question, as well? Thanks!

Lauri -- 2 over 1 means to use two strands of floss and stitch over one square of 14 count Aida fabric for each cross stitch. The first number designates the number of floss threads, the second number designates the number of fabric threads. On linen, you might hear someone say thay stitched one over one, meaning one strand floss over one thread fabric.

I have a x-stitch project for which the directions say, "When stitching on 14 ct. fabric, this design should be stitched 2 over 1." Does anyone know what this means? I've checked resources listed here but still having no luck. I'm looking for a cross stitch magazine containing the following 4 full page graphs: Madonna and Child, Road to Bethlehem, The Magi, Herald Angel. The colored photo of one of them was on the cover. DEBRA: There *is* a copyright issue. You are using a copyrighted or licensed character on items you intend to SELL. This is not legal. If you were to make a few and give them away,that's fine. But you are NOT allowed to sell anything with a character you do not own. I know of someone who tried this and got caught by the designer. Sorry for the bad news, but you don't need that kind of trouble!

Don't think so Debra. Why don't you check through government or copyright website? While you may have created the cross stitch graph, you did not create the character and I know the characters are copyrighted. Don't chance it. There will always be one person to "tell on you".

Hi all-I have a question regarding copyright. I have recently been making cross stitch projects from game characters for friends (like, old Nintendo games like Mario or even some newer stuff with characters from Disney or other movies). I was considering making a lot more and putting them on Etsy, but is there a copyright issue there? The character isn't mine obviously, but I created the pattern and finished project from their image. Is it ok to sell them?

Some time ago I purchased some fabric for counted cross stitch which is very soft and flexible. It does not wrinkle in the embroidery hoop the way the stiff material does. Now I can't find it in the stores and I cannot remember the name of it. It is a 14 count aida-like fabric (it may even be a version of aida cloth). Does anyone know about such a fabric? I really would like to get some more.

My friends and I have found the gold frames at AC Moore (an east coast version of Michaels) and at Dollar Tree (of all places). I just received a message from another stitcher that she was able to order them through Nordic Needle. Now if we can just get the suppliers to realize that people still need these frames... HELEN: Can you provide a little more info on what you're looking for? Do you know who designed it or what company published it? Someone might be able to better help you if they had more information to go on. Do the instructions say whether the thread is dmc, anchor, etc.? Can you maybe take some of it to a local needlework store and find as close a match as possible? Also, have you tried eBay? There's very little you can't find there at some point or other! They've got quite a few tree frogs listed there now. Maybe even the one you're looking for??? If you can find it, maybe you need to just buy the entire kit again simply for the thread you need. Years ago I bought a cross stitch kit and never finished the work. Recently I found it again and started working on it, only to find that I need more of the background colour. Unfortunately I don't have the exact shade number etc. The Code number of the kit is 579607 and the colour is:- Key No 12, Very Dark Green. The picture is of green tree frogs.
