DONAL: There's a website called militaryxstitch.com that has (2) Army Wife poems/prayers. I don't know if it's what you're looking for or not (because neither one mentions anything about it being the "toughest job in the Army") but they're both still pretty nice. I Googled "Army Wife cross stitch poem" and found the following poem that, while not a cross stitch, it does mention in it about the job being tough, so if you like it, maybe you can chart it yourself: http://www.scrapbook.com/poems/doc/2445/27.html. Good luck and I hope I was of some help to you!

I have done many projects, but only on waste canvas. What am I doing wrong?? Do you think it's the dark color? Or should I just get bigger canvas?? The finished design on 14ct is supposed to be 7x9 inches and is quite intricate. Please help!!!

I lost all my cross stitch graphs in a spring storm that destroyed my home. I had bought supplies to make a free graph provided by DMC. It was the outline of America with an eagle and flag colors. I need the graph and picture of this project. If you have it I would love to have a copy. It is no longer on the DMC website. Thank you.

Where can I find the sticky backing material needed to finish something to go inside a "Just-A-Frame" ornament frame? (Personally, I don't know why anyone would make and sell them this way to begin with but since this is pretty much all that's out there on the market now, I need a way to mount my pieces into them after I get them stitched.) Thanks!

I'm looking for a cross stitch pattern that I saw on E-bay. I texted the person, but they didn't answer back. It was of a mother kanoodling and kissing her baby. It was a card version, the colors were very vibrant-fuschia and bright pink for girls, and bright blue for boys. The baby's and mother's hair is dark in color. It almost looks like a photo. I want to make it for myself. Any help would be appreciated. I've searched the Internet for about 4-5 days, but to no avail. Thank you fairy much, Bev

Looking for images of completed stockings/suggestions for cross stich stocking books, I've found a couple on line but can only see images of the cover so hard to know if the other patterns are good. I've seen Donna Kooler's stocking collection : 14 more of Donna's favorite cross stitch Christmas stockings and Heirloom Christmas stockings in cross-stitch : from Cross Stitch & Country Crafts Magazine. I'm just getting back into cross stitching and would rather spend money on getting the thread and not just a bunch of patterns with no money left to buy the materials.

Thank you for the information about Country Keepers. I am actually looking for the plastic jar that has the lid, and a design is placed in the lid. Once upon a time they came in 3 sizes. The lids were heart shaped, or round. Essentially it is featured on the front of the leaflets for stitching the inserts. In about 1986, I opened a cross stitch store in Yakima, WA. The first order I ever placed, was so amazing, and it came from these good people at Yarn Tree Designs! I ordered many of the country keepers, and continued to carry them the 10 years I was open. They were a hit, especially since it was so easy to stitch models for them!!

Gwen, they are the actual cross stitch patterns of longaberger baskets. One is a Basket tree with all sorts of baskets hanging on it and the others are of baskets with vines and plants and some are just the collectible baskets that they offered throughout the years. :) I've had them for about 16 years. :) I don't think I will be stitching them and I was wondering if anyone knew what they might be worth since Longaberger things tend to hold their value plus some. Anymore comments or suggestions can be emailed to me at kelley_likes@yahoo.com Thanks for your interest. :) I don't do Ebay. I do Webstore though. :)(I hope that's allowed to be said). :)

Kelley -- If I understand you correctly, you have cross stitch patterns of Longaberger baskets. This is just my opinion, but since they are not the actual baskets, they are probably only worth what you paid for them or less. I could be wrong because people do collect things and see value where I do not. You might get a good price on eBay.

Lori -- You can always use felt for the bookmark backing. Cut a piece big enough to cover the stitching and iron it on with an interfacing that will make it stick or you can slip stitch it on. You can get a wide range of felt square colors at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or JoAnn's. WalMart might even have some.

Alma - the blue x's are made disconnected because if they were not you would have a big criss cross mess - so Yes extend the x's so that they will touch at the corners. Stamped cross stitch is not as exacting as counted but it still will look great.

Help! I am making cross-stitch bookmarks for Christmas and I don't know how to finish them. I'm done stitching them...I used 28 ct. evenweave and I would like to fringe all four sides. I need some kind of backing, but I want it thin and also to be able to cover black thread sufficiently. I am assuming that I would need to hand sew around the edges to keep them from fraying. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I don't mind the look of the horse's head and it isn't a solid stitched horse. I think that is why the half stitches. The mane on the horse is wispery and light. That is my only concern about completing everything in a full stitch.

Trudy, The only thing I would not consider is doing two different styles. I would either rip it, or think about doing the head in full cross stitches. The horse may have heavier look with full stitches. If you like the look of his neck now, his head should look the same. Good luck.

I started a cross stitch Christmas stocking project and realized I used full stitches where half stitches should have been. The kit is a Dimensions #8573 (Gifts For All Stocking). It is of a vintage Santa feeding an apple to a horse. My mistake is with the horses head. Practically all of the horse is made with half stitches.I caught my mistake after I had finished the neck part of the horse. Do I take out all of the stitches and do it right, leave them as full stitches and do the rest of the horse as half stitches or finish all of the horse with a full stitch? Either way, I will probably be short of thread. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In 2002 I purchased a cross stitch kit advertised through Better Homes and Gardens. It was a set to make simple pillow like ornaments with red cloth and white floss. Patterns were very simple - snowflake, tree, stocking, joy, love, etc. I believe you could make 12 in total. I have been making them annually for family since 2003. The instructions were lost on a recent vacation and I am trying to find someone who might have the instructions or know the company to contact that originally sold the item. It was a special BH&G presents type offer, not an ad in the back of the magazine. I have e-mailed BH&G but no response as of yet. I want to keep the tradition alive so any help would be great.

There was one in the Pontiac area on Dixie Highway, Birmingham, and somewhere North off of I-75. The only web site that they have is a Yahoo group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WOCS/ Most of the donated items are given to nursing homes and children in Northern Florida. That is because the quilters are from that area and started the group. If you have any specific questions, email me. I like the group because you can use any fabric and make a great variety of patterns.

I am making Christmas stockings for my 2 grand daughters. As I cannot knit very well (my mother-in-law knitted beautiful stockings for my 3 sons and 3 previous grandsons, but passed away last year), but started sewing 50 years ago, I have decided to sew the Christmas stockings. I would like to do the name in counted cross stitch, but am wondering what would be the best method to do this. I have purchased some white furry fabric for the stocking cuff, but feel cross stitching on this material would distort the stitches. Or I could cross stitch the name on ccs weave, and attach to the furry cuff - either between top of cuff and stocking, or bottom of cuff. Has anyone ever done this before? Which worked best? Any other ideas? Thank You.

Marie, The first thing I would try is activated charcoal(the kind from the pet stire that you use for aquairium filters) You can buy it loose or in little packets.Wrap it in a paper towel and put it in a ziplock bag(you could probably also use a large storage container and do six at a time. If that doesnt work(I think it will) wash them in cold water and dry flat. If the are printed and you wash them when you stitch then the threads will shrink and since the fabric is already shrunk it will make it rumply.

Hi I was trying to help my mother find a hobby so I purchased a 12 month kit that will need to be sewed together as a quilt (quilting is my hobby). However, for all my good intentions she has had a stroke and is unable to do things in a straight line or write in a straight line. My question is this: The material smells like cigerette smoke (she smokes I do not) & has the yellow smoke stain. Can I wash this material and still use it for the Xstitch pattern?? It is quite an expensive kit and I would like to work it myself.

Lena - Gold metallic ribbon is a flat band of metal - kinda just what it says - the consistency and width depends on the company who makes it. It is great for couching but not too good for cross stitch. Used allot in needlepoint - best to use the thread again there are allot of different threads - some good to work with others I would not because of the ease of use of the thread. I saw a crosstitch pattern years ago in one of the cross stitch magazines just don't remember which one. It was of what I believe was a country farm house to the background and it showed the mailbox that was at the end of a lane and the lid was open on the lid sat a teddy bear with the mailbox full of boxes and letters like at Christmas time. DEBRA: Could there BE anything more frustrating than all the time & energy you put into a (kit) project only to find out you've been shorted on some of the threads you need to complete it?!? Have you tried directly contacting the company to see if they've got more of that color to send you? I've done that a couple of times in the past on kits that I was shorted on & was able to get exact matches of the thread I needed. If you've already done that & they couldn't help you, I would try Steve's suggestion & get as close a match as you can so that hopefully, no one (not even you!) will be able to tell the difference once it's finished (I've had to do that once in the past too). Good luck & I hope everything works out okay for you!

Debra, according to a chart sent to me from one of the Ladies on this here message board, your 16253 is a dimensions floss, DMC 472 or Anchor 253 will be a close match. you can go to Wilton industries and they will send you that same color you are using, 16253. i have done this with no problems. hope this helps.

Carol - the best way to begin any project is in the middle. Your pattern is marked with the arrows. As far as the Long stitch come up at one end and go down at the other. These should be applied last and after the piece is washed as the suede does not wash so well. www.stitchnframeonline.com
