Cross stitch pattern from Hands Across the Sea Samplers. Reproduction of a piece stitched by 13 year old Elizabeth Furniss in 1836. It is topped by a passage which begins, "Jesus permit thy gracious Name to stand, as the first efforts of a females hand." Below this is a boldly colored depiction of Adam, Eve, and the serpent at the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The lower portion of the design shows a large red house with a wide lawn covered in a variety of animals, including sheep, dogs, cows, geese, and deer. The entire piece is worked in cross stitch. Stitch count 347w x 358h.
