Lila's Studio

Lila Umstead’s desire to be a cross stitch designer came into fruition when the Architecture firm she was employed at for 22 years closed its doors in 2008. She saw this as an opportunity to pursue her passion as a designer and used her love for painting, drawing, and architecture to form Lila Studio. Many of her designs originate with small sketches, and then develop into patterns. Lila Umstead’s cross stitch designs are traditional samplers, Fraktur and Quaker inspired, and Seasonal themed samplers. Lila has been cross stitching from her young twenties. She finds interest in Early American samplers, English samplers, and books on Antique needlework to learn about the history of needlework, which also influenced her style. Lila resides in Pennsylvania with her husband, two sons, and house cat, who are her biggest fans.
